UNDERRATED FILM #3 Three Kings
There’s something quite amazing, about having your movies catalyst found in some guys ass. But then I guess, Three Kings it’s not exactly your average heist caper. Critical praised on release, seemingly forgotten about in today’s culture of everything cult. It’s not as if the main cast went on to do bigger and better things, The Prefect Storm (2000) and The Happening (2008) anyone?
You could call it an up to date version of Kelly’s Heroes (1970), about a bunch of troops stealing gold from within enemy lines. But the film has so much more to offer then that. It has something which a lot of films today lack, a real sense of consequence. From our heroes actions to a bullet’s trajectory, nobody really gets a clean getaway. A memorable sequence in the film, being when Clooney’s Major Gates demonstrates to his troops, what really happens to a bullet when it enters the body? It makes you wonder, what the real fate of all the baddies in Commando (1985) faced, after Schwarzenegger mowed them down?
Go dust off your old DVD copy, borrow it from a friend, FUCK, even buy it for cheap on Amazon. But there’s one thing for sure, Three Kings will not disappoint.
